Training Cancelled - Sat 4th Dec

We have decided to cancel Saturday morning training as we feel the pitch and MUGA are still not going to be fit for training despite rain coming in tonight and starting the snow & ice to thaw plus there is still an outside chance that the rain will turn to snow. We apologise that this is the second week that we have had to cancel but we do feel that it is not worth risking the safety of our kids as well as holding a miserable training session which wouldn't be a lot of fun for any of us !

Hopefully our weather will settle down this week so we can get our last training session in next week (11th Dec). Some parents have commented that we seem to be finishing early this year but we have taken this decision based on the fact that as we get closer to Christmas the attendance plummets due to other commitments such as School plays the night before, Christmas shopping trips, Parents Christmas meals the night before !! etc etc. So we hope you understand why we have chosen to stop a little earlier. We always try to make the last session before Christmas a bit of fun so please encourage your kids to come with a Christmas hat or something festive. We will have some sweets and drinks for the kids after training plus some mince pies and mulled wine for the parents.

Hope to see you next week.

The Reserves home game has also been cancelled today.

U11 Game Postponed

Game this Sunday (24th) vs Lytchett is postponed and will be rearranged later in the season.

Maiden Newton winning streak continues

Stalbridge 1 - 4 Maiden Newton

Maiden Newton were soon camped in the Stalbridge end of the field but constant attacks were resisted by resolute defence from a team organised to fill their own penalty area and by another impressive display from the home goalkeeper. It became a matter of patient build up and belief that a goal must come from somewhere but it was some time before the deadlock was broken and Jack opened the scoring. There was then a period of the game when the Newton boys dropped below their usually high standards and also conceded a goal from a long clearance upfield by the home keeper, who proved to be the biggest danger to Tom in goal. This proved to be a minor inconvenience as three more goals from Frederic, who managed to find the smallest of gaps, were scored for a comfortable away win.

Match of the Newtons 2

Sturminster Newton 2 - 5 Maiden Newton

After a nervous start both teams settled into a seesaw phase of end to end football until eventually the ball ran loose to Jack who closed in on goal and drove the ball into the net, low and hard. A long low shot from Stur then found it's way through a ruck of players and despite a despairing dive from an "obstructed view" Ollie, the scores were level. Stur then scored again to take the lead but the response from the Newton boys was excellent as they pressed even harder. After a couple of good passing attacks Freddie dribbled into the penalty area and was brought down by two defenders. He took the penalty and struck the back stanchion before the keeper could move. In the second half Thomas and Charlie constantly broke up the Stur attacks supported by the midfield trio of Noah, Keiron and Jack who ran their legs off.

Tom's handling in goal despite the sun in his eyes was of the highest quality. He will be going away for sunlight conditioning shortly. Gaps in the home defence were exploited by incisive passing and Freddie crossed for Keiron to score and also added two more himself from identical tight angles across the keeper. With time running out Jamie joined the fray and the clock ran out for Stur. Many thanks to a brave Stur parent for a great display of refereeing, he had a 100% score from me, though he did have my excellent whistle to help him. This was easily the best performance of the season in a top of the table clash and the spirit of the whole squad was of the highest order.

The match of the Newtons...

Maiden Newton 3 - 2 Sturminster Newton United

This top of the table clash started badly for the home side as early United pressure eventually led to an inevitable opening goal. Despite further pressure Ollie kept calm in goal and the much smaller Maiden players gradually became more confident. Keiron equalised with a low hard shot that deceived the keeper and the match became more even up to the break.
At half time the boys were told "this is much harder" but they all said they were enjoying it more because it was a close game. In the second half the play was end to end but Sturminster went ahead in amazing fashion direct from a corner with a large crowd wondering how he managed to score from that position. MN now looked for another equaliser with Frederic pushed over as he was shooting but the ref giving a goal kick. Shortly after Frederic was through again but this time the defender tackled from behind and brought him down for a certain penalty. The Stur player then showed very obvious dissent and was shown a yellow card before Frederic drilled home the spot kick.
Before long there was a goalmouth scramble and Frederic was presented with a gaping goal and hit the roof of the net. Sturminster then pressed to the end with the Maiden goal leading a charmed life. Tom, Noah, Thomas, and Charlie all made last ditch clearances with the latter the man of the match for his excellent defending. A very special mention for Jamie as the game was so tight the manager could not make changes and he bravely took one for the team.

Fundraising News

The Maiden Newton @ War committee have presented the cheques to the village organisations that had volunteers, or ran areas at the MN@W weekend.

The Youth Football club was not to be left out and received a cheque for £400 which will allow the youth club to purchase some new equipment and help with the running of the club. Special thanks go to those who volunteered their hours to the club and who helped with Rene’s café. We would also like to thank the MN@W committee for their hard work and commitment in supporting the local organisations.

The next MN@W event will take place in June 2012 and we will be looking for volunteers and ideas as to what the football club can do to help. The café will definitely be on the cards again, but maybe we can do something else as well?

The senior club is also running a fundraising race night for both the first team and the reserves to be held at the Chalk on Friday 8th October. Please put this in your diaries, let all your friends and families know, and start saving your betting money now...

Stalbridge match report - Freddie's the man...

The U11's played their first ever home league game against Stalbridge. MN were quickly into a fine passing game but found that the big visiting keeper was hard to beat. The home team continued to create chances and by half time were 5 - 1 ahead. In the second half Oliver replaced Tom in goal and the outfield players were regularly swapped around and substituted to give everyone a game. This gave a more disjointed performance and Stalbridge came more into the game, but the new keeper showed great promise and courage to deny them any second half goals. Meanwhile four more goals were added at the other end for a 9 - 1 final score.

Keiron 4, Frederic 3, Jack 1, Noah 1. Stalbridge's manager insisted on Frederic being man of the match, a lot of teams do this, while in return we nominated their keeper.

So a great start as Played 2, Won 2 Goals for 30 Goals against 1.

U11's win first game...

Away at Lytchett for a first ever League match in the Dorset League the Maiden Newton lads attacked and almost scored straight from the kick off. Up to half time it was then all one way traffic with the Lytchett defenders under constant pressure. Despite their efforts the score rose to 9 - 0 by half time, with the Lytchett keeper making brilliant saves to keep the score down. Charlie and Thomas won every ball in defence whenever the home team tried to break out.

In the second half the Lytchett lads tried to get a goal but Tom was trying hard to keep a clean sheet and grabbed anything loose in the goal area. Meanwhile the Maiden Newton forwards continued to hit the back of the net on a regular basis with defenders and keeper battling bravely to the final whistle.Praise was due to everyone who took part as supporters, managers, players and referee were as one for the good of the game.
Scorers were Frederic10, Jack 3, Thomas 2, Noah 3, Keiron 1, Charlie 2, for a 21 - 0 record win.

Stalbridge Tournament April 24th

Stalbridge Tournament April 24th

The Maiden Newton Youth Football Club entered teams for the U-8 and U-10 competition. It was a beauiful sunny day and we were all impressed by pitches, they were in excellent condition.

The U-8s played four games, 5 a side and 5 minutes each way. They did not win any of the games, however, they played very well, losing three of their games by one goal and were unlucky not to win two of the games. At the end of the non competitive U-8 games every participating team received a medal.

The U-10s also had an excellent tournament and reached the final in their age group. Well done!
