Last game of 2009 and what a cracker!

Bere Regis Colts V Maiden Newton Youth Football Club 13th December - Last game of 2009 and what a cracker!

We first played Bere Regis at home on the 18th October and it was a fantastic game, full of drama, tension and excitement.

Every time Maiden Newton scored a goal, Bere Regis would score another and so it continued for the duration of the game. Rhys scored the winning goal with a minute to spare on that day. We were all looking forward to the follow-up game on the 13th and we were not disappointed. Both sides were evenly matched with lots of play at both ends of the pitch. Just as well as it was a cold day and the spectators kept warm by pacing up and down the pitch.

Both teams had opportunities to take the lead in the first half, however, it remained 0-0 going into the second half. Bere Regis managed to break away and score the first goal. Maiden Newton raised their game and Tao scored their first goal from a corner kick taken by Sean.

Our second goal came from a set piece - Arron did a throw in at the half way line, Sean lobbed the ball forward to Rhys who scored a great goal. Maiden Newton's third goal was a copy of their first, only this time Tao took the corner kick and Sean scored. Joseph was captain and goalie for this game and he did a great job keeping out a number of goal bound efforts. Bere Regis were still hungry for another goal and claimed another before the end of the game. The traditional penalty shootout took place after the end of the match. Well done Maiden Newton and Bere Regis. Games will resume again after the Christmas break. LW

Football Training Cancelled - Sat 14th

Football Training Cancelled - Sat 14th

Unfortunately due to the forecast for extreme weather at the weekend we have taken the decision to cancel this weeks training. We don't like having to do this but if the forecast is right there will be no way that any of the kids can train outside in driving wind and rain and the Youth Centre just isn't big enough to accommodate all of them for indoors training. We'll have to install a Wembly style roof to the top of the MUGA - put that in the wish list for improvements to the centre Paul !!

Enjoy your lie ins !!

18th Oct - Nail biting match at home

Maiden Newton v Bere Regis Colts

Two evenly matched teams played their hearts out, matching each other goal for goal. Bere Regis scored the first goal after the ball passed the Maiden Newton defence. Tayo was on form again scoring a hat-trick. It was all square going into the dying minutes and Rhys scored the winning goal. Both supporters enjoyed the fantastic play and a penalty shootout followed at the end of the match. Next week we visit Wool and Winfrith.

11th Oct - Little Green Army no match for Vikings

Wyke Victoria Vikings v Maiden Newton

Sorry to report that this was our toughest game yet. The first thing that hit us about the opposition was their height - many of them would not look out of place in an under 10 side. We played well in the first five minutes and then lost our way. No goals for Maiden Newton this week. Tayo showed his excellent goal keeping skills in the second half. The away supporters were congratulated by the referee for their encouragement.

U8s 4th October - A huge confidence boost!

Maiden Newton v Portland United Panthers

Given our two previous outings to Weymouth, we were expecting more of the same for our first home game. We were pleasantly surprised when Tayo, our U-8 Captain, scored the first goal after a few minutes of play. Two more goals were scored by Maiden Newton in quick succession. At last there were smiles on the home supporter’s faces. The players supported each other and were allowed to display the skills they had learned during the Wednesday night training sessions. Tayo scored two fantastic goals from free kicks. Rhys and Sean also contributed to the score sheet. A big cheer was given to the visiting side when they scored their goal in the second half. Both teams were well supported.

Rural Club give their all against Weymouth Cougars

Under-8s

Both teams were evenly matched in an exciting first half with lots of defensive tackles, passing and breakaway runs. The second half was more one sided as Maiden Newton’s smaller squad tired under the full sun.

The first period ended with Sean scoring the first goal in the tournament for Maiden Newton. The little green army have struggled to get enough players to make a team for each game, this being their first ever season in the U-8 league. With only one sub available, the legs quickly tired and Weymouth Cougars scored in quick succession in the second half.

Rhys showed the determination of the team and scored a late goal. Both teams were well supported at The Marsh grounds. This is the second game for Maiden Newton Youth Football Club having formed in July 2009 and they have improved since their first game. We’re looking forward to the next game.

Weymouth FC Youth Tournament 24th May - U7/8's

The tournament took place at

The Marsh on a lovely sunny day. The U9's team started playing at 9.30am and the U7/8's team got under way just after 2pm. With 12 teams in the Under 7/8's Boys category, it was going to be a long day. Having participated in the Dorchester tournament at the beginning of May the boys were now familiar with the format. This time round they played 7 a side, with each game lasting about 15 minutes. The boys were well supported by their parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents. The boys played very well considering the warm weather and playing the majority of the games with an U7 side. East scored their first and only goal of the tournament. At 6 pm with three games remaining the Team Managers decided to call it a day and the teams all gathered together to be presented with their medals. LW

AGM Report

The AGM was well attended and
all the players received a medal from Yeovil Town FC player Paul Warne. A special prize was also given to players with a 100% attendance record, most improved player and player of the year in the different age groups. The players who participated in the Dorchester Tournament also received medals for their efforts. The parents and coaches were given a big cheer for their support and contribution to the running of the club. Ian was thanked for maintaining the playing field and Norman House for helping to sweep up the changing rooms after the training session. The weather remained dry and the events went ahead as planned. Four teams participated in 'It's a Knockout'. I volunteered to captain 'The Ninjas' and the girls from the WDDC Action Van captained three teams. We all enjoyed the varied, fun and challenging activities. Michael and Colin did a great job on the BBQ. LW

Presentation / AGM / Fun day this Saturday 16th May

The presentation of awards will kick off at 11am with guest presenter Yeovil Town's - Paul Warne.
After this will be a quick AGM while the kids are entertained by the WDDC Action Van. (Bouncy Castle as well weather permitting)
We will then stoke up the barbies and start selling refreshments - just right for Saturday lunch.
The plan for the afternoon is to have a family It's a Knockout with lots of large inflatable games ie gladiator / human table football / sumo etc etc - It is great fun - I know I got roped in last summer.
However the Great British weather may change this - if it is wet, due to Health & Safety regulations, we will not be able to use the inflatables. If this is the case we will revert to our normal fun footie matches - mums vs the pups - & the dads vs the rest !! So please make sure you have your normal training kit with you.
Lets all cross our fingers for good weather.
